Celebrating a 50 year partnership
UNSW’s 50 year partnership with the Prince of Wales hospital has been celebrated with a gala dinner attended by staff, alumni and special guests from both institutions.
The Prince of Wales Clinical School opened in 1963 to provide practical ward experience for students. It is now one of five Sydney-based clinical schools associated with UNSW Medicine, which spearhead not only teaching, but research for the Faculty.
Around 200 guests attended the dinner at Scientia’s Leighton Hall, including some of the first students to train in the clinical school, such as Professor James Isbister and UNSW Associate Professor David de Carle.
UNSW Chancellor David Gonski spoke of the significance of the partnership, how it had grown and its future, including the new Health-Science Alliance, of which UNSW is a part.
Mr Gonski said the new alliance of hospitals, medical research institutes and universities formalises the long tradition of cooperation in the triple mission of those involved -- healthcare, research and teaching.
