Everything You Wanted to Know about Scientific Publishing and an Introduction to the new journal APL Bioengineering

When is my manuscript ready for submission? How do I choose a journal that is most appropriate for my manuscript? What are my rights as an author? What is open access and why should I care? How is impact factor measured? Diana Schlamadinger, Journal Manager at AIP Publishing, aims to answer these questions as well as address some of the commonly held misconceptions about scientific publishing.
Prof. Justin Cooper-White, Editor-in-Chief of APL Bioengineering, will discuss the mission of the newest AIP Publishing journal, APL Bioengineering, emerging fields in bioengineering that will be captured by upcoming issues in the journal, and why you should submit.
A question and answer session will follow to answer any questions you may have about how to maximize your chances of getting your work published in APL Bioengineering and beyond.
Dr Diana Schlamadinger’s Bio: Diana has been working at AIP Publishing since 2015 as a Journal Manager of titles including APL Bioengineering, APL Materials, and AIP Advances. Before coming to AIP Publishing, she worked in the Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry department at Yale University as a postdoctoral fellow. She holds a BS (2005) in Chemistry from Butler University in Indianapolis, an MS (2007) and a PhD (2011) in Chemistry and Biochemistry from UC, San Diego.
Prof Justin Cooper-White’s Bio: Justin graduated with his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, UQ, in March 2000. He subsequently held a postdoctoral position at UMelb. In 2004 he moved to UQ to head a new initiative in Tissue Engineering in the Department of Chemical Engineering. He currently holds the positions of Group Leader in the AIBN (UQ), Bioengineering Prof in Chemical Engineering (UQ), Director of the Australian National Fabrication Facility - Queensland Node, CSIRO Office of the Chief Executive Science Leader in Biomaterials Discovery, Co-Director of the UQ Centre in Stem Cell Ageing and Regenerative Engineering, Professor and Group Leader (Adjunct) within the Australian Regenerative Medicine Institute (Monash University), Vice President (Health and Medical) of the Queensland Academy of Arts and Sciences, and President of the Asian Biomaterials Federation.
