The Lowy Cancer Research Centre is honoured to have Prof Angel Lopez speak as part of the Centre's 2013 Seminar Series. His seminar is entitled "The ßc cytokine receptor family: Structural insights and signalling mechanisms"
Prof Lopez is Co-Director and Founder of the Centre for Cancer Biology; Head of Division of Human Immunology at IMVS Pathology in South Australia. His team’s research focuses on leukaemia and has developed a candidate treatment for eliminating leukaemia stem cells – currently the holy grail of cancer research.Their work has led to significant discoveries in understanding how cytokines and cytokine receptors work in health and in diseases such as leukaemia and asthma. This path has led to new paradigms of cytokine receptor signalling and has underpinned the development of new therapeutics with the potential to change clinical practice.
In 2010, Professor Lopez shared the ‘South Australian Scientist of the Year’ title at the annual South Australian Science Excellence Awards.
We thank Bioline for their generous support of  this seminar.
