In August 2014, Professor Dame Valerie Beral  DBE AC FRS was appointed as a Visiting Professorial Fellow, Prince of Wales Clinical School UNSW Australia and, over the next three years will contribute to the academic activities of the School. Dame Valerie, a preeminent specialist in breast cancer epidemiology, will be visiting Australia in November, at the invitation of the National Breast Cancer Foundation, as their first Scholar in Residence. Dame Valerie, is Head of the Cancer Epidemiology Unit at the University of Oxford. This is one of several medical departments at Oxford who may be the host organisation for the inaugural recipient of the White Walker Scholarship. This scholarship will be awarded to a UNSW PhD student to study in Oxford for 6 months.
On Thursday 27th November, Professor Beral will deliver the key note address at the Third Health Science Alliance Scientific Symposium. Her presentation, titled 'Rosalind Franklin and research today” will commence at 10:30am at the Royal Hospital for Women Lecture Theatre.
Professor Beral will also speak at the 42nd Coast Medical Association TOW Research Awards, which are now part of the Sydney Health Science Alliance, will be held on Friday November 28th at the Edmund Blacket Lecture Theatre, Prince of Wales Hospital. Over $10,000 in prizes are awarded, including travel awards to present candidates' work at an international conference.
