Professor John Pimanda is a Haematologist; Head of the Department of Pathology, School of Medical Sciences, UNSW Sydney; and Head of the Adult Cancer Program, Lowy Cancer Research Centre.

Invited speaker Dr Mark Polizzotto, The Kirby Institute for Infection and Immunity - Facilitating industry partnerships to promote academic health science research
Dr Mark Polizzotto is a Consultant Haematologist, NHMRC Australian Clinical Research Fellow and the Cancer Institute NSW Future Research Leader Fellow. His clinical and scientific interests lie at the intersection of immunity and malignancy and is principal investigator for the Australian site of the NIH National Cancer Institute AIDS Malignancy Consortium. The goals of his research program are to develop novel therapies to improve outcomes for people with HIV and cancer, and to use this unique population to help answer fundamental questions about oncogenesis and HIV pathogenesis.
Objectives
1.Generate ideas for early phase cancer clinical trials.
2.Identify optimal mechanisms for connecting with industry partners.
3.Discuss challenges of promoting academic health science research.
