Background:
Professor Merlin Crossley, Dean of Science, will discuss the various issues and skills needed for successfully supervising and leading a research team.  This will be the first session for the 2014 ECR & Postdoc Academy.  The Academy holds monthly seminars with high level speakers for UNSW Early Career Researchers and Postdoctoral academics.  The presentation will be followed by light refreshments and networking opportunities.
Merlin Crossley completed his BSc (Hons) at the University of Melbourne and his doctorate at Oxford University investigating the molecular genetics of haemophilia B. He then moved to post-doctoral position at Harvard Medical School where he investigated gene control in blood cells. In 1995 he returned to Australia and took up a lectureship at the University of Sydney. In 2006 he was awarded a Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Higher Degree Student Supervision. He moved to UNSW as Dean of Science at the end of 2009.
Registration:
Log into myUNSW, select My Staff Profile tab and choose Training Registration in the left hand menu. Select Post Doctoral Academy from the Course Type drop down menu and click Search. Select which session you would like to attend.
Once registered, you will receive an email confirming your registration. Attendees who make 75% of the workshops for the year will receive a formal certificate at the end.
